Meet Team Sasha.

My name is Annette.  I am Sasha’s owner and handler.  I have had Sasha since she was 8 weeks old.  I spent many years behind a desk and decided to emerge myself in a massive career change during 2016.  Now I am a Veterinary Nurse, an Animal Control Officer, Canine Carer at a Dog Day Care facility and a German Shepherd Dog breeder.  I have a Certificate III in Animal Studies and am currently studying my Certificate IV in Veterinary Nursing.

Sasha is a 3 ½ year old German Shepherd Dog.   Sasha originally trained as a show dog and won and placed in many shows including becoming the Tasmanian Intermediate Siegerin for 2015 (the best bitch aged between 18 months and 3 years old in the state). She has also produced a litter in 2016 of 6 beautiful puppies which have since found homes all over Australia.

I wished to give back to the community in some way that involved animals, so in March 2017, Sasha and I became volunteers with K9 SAR Inc.

In April/May of 2017 she completed the Introductory Tracking Course held at by the Tasmanian Dog Training Club based at Churchill Park in Invermay.  We both thoroughly enjoyed this course and I believed that it would assist with our training at K9 SAR Inc.

We are now training in Air Scent Detection along with our tracking in hopes that our skills will one day be utilised to save a life or two.

We are in the process of working towards being an accredited and certified Search and Rescue K9 Team and assisting the Tasmanian community by helping our Emergency Services find the missing and bringing them home safe.
